Welcoming a new addition to the family is always a special time. Whether you’re the primary or secondary carer, as a parent your presence and support is hugely important for your child and partner. Our 12 week Paid Parental Leave program isn’t just for new mums, we also encourage our new dads to embrace their roles as primary carers when mums head back to work.
Our Financial Reporting Manager, Oli, was one such dad who recently took advantage of the the program. Here’s what he shared with us about what it meant to him and his family:
“On the 16th of October 2018 my family was blessed with the arrival of our first child, a beautiful little boy. Like many first-time parents we didn’t know what to expect. There were a couple of things however that were abundantly clear from the beginning: this was going to be a life changing event; it was going to be a massive challenge, but it would also be the most rewarding thing we’d ever done!
From the moment I laid eyes upon my son, I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him. I was fortunate that BetEasy has a generous parental leave program for primary carers of 12 weeks. The leave was flexible and allowed me to take the 12 weeks part time, which enabled me to stay in touch with the workplace and be there to guide the team. I think it’s so important that Dads are recognised as key care givers as well as mothers and it was evident that BetEasy also shared this view and was supportive throughout.
The leave not only allowed my wife to get back into the workforce sooner, but also gave me the opportunity to develop a much stronger bond with my son than I would have otherwise. Notwithstanding the many nappy changes and sleepless nights, the time I was afforded with my son was the most precious, invaluable and cherished moments of my life to date.”
